You Are Powerful
“Our power cannot be found in fear, it is found in the energy we give and receive in the present moment.”
I’ve been switching up my meditation practice a bit these last few weeks since we’ve been in stay-at-home mode. I’ve been much more open to possibilities - possibilities that I can’t even think of right now because maybe they don’t exist. I’ve been open to receiving new ways of being in this world, as the current model hasn’t been working for quite some time, and is, in part, responsible for the current shut down/protective state the world is in. This has actually been good for my meditation, because it’s much easier for me to give up control of my thoughts and surrender to a greater Consciousness that knows how to better “be” in this reality.
That may seem pretty deep or “out there”, but as Einstein noted, the energy that solves problems has to be different than the energy that created them. And I feel we have spent so much of our collective energy on trying to identify, define, and analyze the problems of the world today, and in order to create solutions, we need to shift our energy to possibilities and things that may work - to move in the direction of solutions - to expansion.
During my meditation this morning, the above thought came to me ‘ Our power cannot be found in fear, it is found in the energy we give and receive in the present moment.’ There’s so much fear circulating in the collective energy right now. People are in a fight or flight state and have been for weeks and may continue to be after the virus has run its course and we all attempt to return to some form of normalcy. But one of the things I’ve noticed is the feeling of disempowerment many feel now. People are living in a state of fear - of being attacked by something outside themselves that they are powerless to. They have forgotten how powerful they really are. They have forgotten the amazing adaptability and healing powers they have access to. They have forgotten how resilient the human body is - when supported with the right energy and tools. And they have forgotten about all of the good that is and continues to be in our world.
It may be natural to feel some fear when confronted with a situation like COVID-19, but it is not natural to stay in that fear for an extended period of time. That fear may serve as a signal to adjust our behavior, to adjust our thoughts, to support our immune system more, to replenish our bodies with life-giving food, and to “be the master of our minds” and quiet them so they can be open to solutions. But if we stay in that fear for too long, we give up any sense of empowerment we may have, to that fear.
So what do we do? Fear thrives on thinking about a future reality that doesn’t exist, but could, if things go badly. Fear thrives on other peoples’ fear. Fear easily has its way with us when our brains our stressed (in high Beta). And, in my opinion, fear has a much easier time seeping into our lives, when we haven’t given our brain and body the nutrients it needs to thrive. So if we reverse engineer this, we really need to pay attention to what we are focusing on. We want to focus on what we have control of (and it’s more than most of us think). We want to unplug from the news - be aware, but not obsessed. We want to quiet our mind through some practice of meditation. We want to pay attention to what we are feeding our bodies and our minds and make sure, for the most part, it supports us. We want to stay away from worst case scenario projections, and from constantly thinking about all of the things that could go wrong. The truth is, none of us know exactly what is going to happen or when it will happen, but what we do know is that in any given moment, we are OK. Check in with yourself now. Are you OK? Are you still around? How about now? And now? And now? Good.
Spend more time focusing on your energy. How are you feeling? This world is created through an exchange of energy. So our personal worlds are created through the exchange of energy we “give off” to the world, and the energy we allow ourselves to receive. Different feeling states give off different energies/frequencies (and different chemical concoctions in our biology). We are basically sending out an energy/frequency or signal and whatever we are sending out, that is what were are “tuned to” - that’s the “radio station” we are playing, so that is what we are going to typically experience as we go through our day.
So if we are feeling frustrated or angry, we are projecting an energy of frustration and anger, and we are like a tuning fork attracting similar energies to us and attuning our experiences to match up with that energy. Likewise, if we are in a state of appreciation and love and joy, we are emanating that vibration and “like” frequencies will show up in our experience.
The cool thing about all of this is that we ultimately have control of how we feel - in any given moment - we get to choose. So each and every moment, we have a chance to check in with ourselves and notice how we feel, and make any shifts we feel we need to make. That’s all we really have in that moment - we aren’t experiencing the future yet and we are not in the past. We are in the present moment, setting up momentum for our future, through the energy our feelings are now.
Being aware of what we are “giving off” is one part of the equation, and then being aware of what we are letting in, is the other part. Are we letting in the joyous experiences that are in front of us or are we “saving them” until we are done with our “work” or until we think we deserve them? Are we letting the love from others in or are we keeping them at a distance, so we don’t get hurt? Are we open to receiving our desires or are we holding ourselves apart from them? Often, we hold good things away from ourselves, for no good reason - often to prove our worthiness to ourselves and others, and that’s not serving anyone!
Our true power lies in being aware of what we are feeling and the energy we are projecting and in our allowing ourselves to receive the pure coherent energy that is our birthright.
During this time we all have, where we have been forced to unplug from our normal habits and routines, make a conscious effort to create a new habit and routine. Make sure you unplug from the chaotic noise for a few minutes each day to nurture your mind and body. Put on some soft music, sit or lie comfortably, put on headphones so you aren’t distracted - and maybe an eye pillow, breath deeply for a bit, and focus on your heart center. Focus your attention on your heart center and feel the feelings of love and appreciation. Think of someone or something that gives you that feeling of unconditional love and just let yourself feel it and be with it for a while. And then continue to feel that state and let it move to the rest of your body - to all of the cells of your body and the space between your cells. Let go of any tension or resistance you may feel. And be open to receiving pure coherent energy, and just be with it and take it all in and enjoy it.
After doing this a few times, this will become easier and easier for you, and you should begin to feel more empowered. Notice that feeling and use that momentum for creating your own reality, if you choose - a reality that isn’t centered around fear, but one that is centered around love, joy, satisfaction, expansion and peace.
